New Childhood Obesity Training Requirement

SB27 was passed during the recent legislative session. This regulation requires employees of certain child care facilities to complete training each year relating to the lifelong wellness, health and safety of children. (BDR 38-24). The regulation reads as follows:

Section 1. Chapter 432A of NRS is hereby amended by adding thereto a new section to read as follows: Each person who is employed in a child care facility, other than in a facility that provides care for ill children, shall complete at least 15 hours of training each year. At least 2 hours of such training must be devoted to the lifelong wellness, health and safety of children and must include training relating to childhood obesity, nutrition and physical activity. Sec. 2. This act becomes effective on July 1, 2011.

A number of trainings are already available, and more are being developed. Be sure to check the Registry's Training Calendar to search for approved training to meet this requirement. Contact your licensing surveyor with questions and or for more information.
