Nevada Child Care Advisory Council

The Child Care Advisory Council was formed by the Division of Public and Behavioral Health as part of the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services.  Child Care Licensing, within the Division, is a unit of Health, Statistics, Planning and Response.  The Advisory Council works collaboratively with the Child Care Industry.  Council recommendations are advisory in nature and are reported to the Bureau Chief or designee to the Administrator of the Division.  The Council operates under approved Bylaws.

The mission of the Council is to examine, consider, and make recommendations concerning Nevada’s Child Care Industry related to, a) educational strategies for providers, b) revision of regulations, c) complaint processes, d) fine/fee methodologies and structures, and e) other issues impacting Child Care Facilities.

Council Composition:

The Council consists of no more than 11 members who must be Representatives of a licensed Child Care Facility that is in full compliance with the Division during the past two years.  When feasible, the Council includes members from rural, northern and southern Nevada, as well as non-profit, for-profit, group/family & center care, accommodation, special events, institutional and parks & recreation providers and others as warranted.

Term of Membership and Officers:

Members serve on a staggered timeline, two to three years, to avoid all members leaving at one time.  In the event of a vacancy, nominations will be solicited followed by a vote of the Council.  Council members do not receive compensation; all costs are the responsibility of the serving member.  Co-Chairpersons, one from northern and southern Nevada, conduct the meetings.

Meeting Schedule:

The Council meets a minimum of once each quarter and as the work dictates.  A special meeting may be called as deemed necessary.  Standing or special subcommittees may be appointed by either Chairperson.  All meetings are conducted in accordance with NRS 241, known as “Nevada’s Open Meeting Law.”  Simplified Robert’s Rules of order govern the functions of the Council. Interested persons are welcome and urged to attend.

Upcoming meeting dates:
Meetings begin at 1:30 pm. Agenda information will be posted in designated state and county offices.
