Advocacy 101

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, advocacy is defined as the "act or process of advocating or supporting a cause or proposal".  More simply stated; advocacy is about speaking up to represent your family, or particular groups, on specific issues.

The "Families in Action Advocacy Guidebook", published by The Chidren's Cabinet, Inc., walks you through advocacy and helps you to become more comfortable with the process. By reading through this guidebook, you will become familiar with the legislative process, learn how to contact your elected officials on issues that are important to you, overcome the obstacles that might otherwise prevent you from getting involved, and learn the steps needed to take action! The next legislative session begins in February 2013. NOW is the perfect time to prepare for getting involved! For more information, please visit The Children's Cabinet website or call (800) 753-5500.
