Attention Trainers! Important Announcement Regarding Renewal Criteria
Posted Thursday, September 7, 2017 by Shelly Nye
Please read this notice as it contains important updates to the requirements for trainer requalification for the 2018 calendar year.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank the 200+ individuals who have completed the trainer approval process this year. Together we have experienced a tremendous amount of growth. We continue to believe that higher standards for trainers and for the delivery of training to the ECE community will lead to positive outcomes for children in Nevada which still remains the most important outcome of all!
As you are aware, trainer renewal requirements were outlined within the Trainer Qualification and Approval Criteria that was rolled out in January 2017. Trainer renewal criteria included the following two requirements that must be met annually:
- Present evidence of having delivered a minimum of 4 Registry-approved training sessions during the previous 12 months to the ECE community. Training must have been offered to the public to qualify.
- Present evidence of having completed 15 hours of required continuing education training and/or college coursework related to adult learning principles and early childhood/child development.
While it was our intent for the renewal requirements to be fully articulated and defined by now, if often takes more time than anticipated to do work with this level of importance well. The good news is that we made the important decision to solicit the help of a newly formed external workgroup of ECE stakeholders called the Training Approval System (TAS) Advisory Workgroup. The TAS workgroup is currently helping to further define the requalification process as part of their work, which began in August. Decisions regarding the 4 publicly-held training sessions and 15 hours of ongoing professional development will be made before the end of the 2017 calendar year which means that you will know EXACTLY what to expect going into 2018. Until then, please note that BOTH requirements are being waived for 2017.
What this means is that re-qualification for the 2018 calendar year will be based on whether the individual meets the 2018 minimum educational standards (for ECE Trainers) and/or whether certifications, licenses, etc. are still valid (for Topic Trainers). In order to renew their approval status, trainers will be required to complete a simplified online trainer re-qualification application and accept the 2018 Trainer Agreement as part of the renewal process. Please note that the renewal/re-qualification application will be available on November 1, 2017 for all currently approved trainers.
Please visit the blog and “For Trainers” pages of the Registry website regularly for updates on the upcoming work of the TAS Advisory Workgroup. You are also welcome to contact our office with any questions.
Thank you again for being an integral part of the training approval system in Nevada. We appreciate the important contributions you make to the early childhood community!
