Make your time and investment in professional development count!

Always check the Registry’s online training calendar BEFORE registering for any training to ensure that it is Registry-approved. If it is not approved by the Registry, it will not be accepted by Licensing!

Several of the most commonly made mistakes with regard to seeking and taking training are highlighted below, but be sure to review the Training and Professional Development FAQ page of our website for in-depth answers to many more commonly asked questions regarding training.

Buyer Beware

Training organizations will occasionally send flyers advertising upcoming training events and/or offering independent study training opportunities (correspondence courses, internet course, etc.). It may say that all courses are approved for hours in most states. Do not assume that the training/courses are approved by the Registry. Why? Even if an agency has submitted their distance learning courses for approval by the Registry, there is no guarantee that ALL of their available training sessions have been accepted/approved. As with ALL training, you should refer to the Registry’s online training calendar to determine whether a course you are interested in taking has been approved. Don’t assume that hours will be accepted by Licensing just because the course is listed on a flyer sent by the organization and/or their website. If a training doesn’t appear on the Registry’s training calendar, it’s not approved and will not be accepted by Licensing!

The Informed Consumer

On a rare occasion, you may attend a training but do not  receive a certificate when you leave and/or the certificate you receive does not have an approval code from the Registry. Never leave a training without a certificate! Every approved trainer has signed an agreement stating that they will issue certificates of attendance at the conclusion of their training sessions, and that those certificates will include the Registry-issued approval code. If you do not have a certificate or the certificate does not have a Nevada Registry approval code, it may not be approved, or it may simply be an oversight on behalf of the trainer. In either case, the course will not be counted toward your annual training requirements for licensing without proper documentation of Registry approval.

Do your research before registering for any training to be certain that a training has been approved PRIOR to taking it! The easiest way to do this is to visit our online training calendar. Anything that has been approved by the Registry, and that is open to the public, will appear on the calendar up until, and including, the day of the event. If ever you are in doubt, feel free to contact our office to speak with a Registry Associate who can verify the approval status for you.
