Important Message from Division of Social Services
Updated federal guidelines return benefit amount to 100% as shutdown ends
In the late hours of Nov. 13, the Nevada Division of Social Services (DSS) transmitted approximately $33 million in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to nearly 216,000 households. This follows the end of the federal government shutdown and restores full SNAP benefits to eligible Nevadans.
“DSS has been monitoring the shutdown closely,” said DSS Administrator Robert Thompson. “When DSS received word that partial benefits would be issued based on 65% of maximum SNAP benefit allotments, we immediately began working, under the full support from Governor Lombardo and his team, on system changes that would be needed to issue 100% SNAP benefits. This allowed us to quickly pivot and ensure benefits were loaded onto EBT cards as fast as possible.”
On Nov. 13, the U.S. Department of Agriculture instructed all states to take immediate action to ensure SNAP recipients promptly receive their full November benefits.
In accordance with federal guidance earlier in the month, up to 50% of SNAP benefits had been issued to eligible Nevadans on Nov. 5, followed by up to an additional 15% on Nov. 11.
December benefits will be issued under the normal schedule.
Currently, SNAP benefits are federally funded through September 2026. Applications for the SNAP program can be submitted through Access Nevada or by visiting any DSS office.
