A message from Crystal Swank, Professional and ECE Program Coordinator, TMCC:
Happy New Year!
The spring semester is only a couple of weeks away, but there is still room in many ECE and HDFS courses at TMCC. The one credit courses we offer not only satisfy elective credit for our AAS degree, they are a great way to complete required training hours for licensing. A one credit course is equal to 15 clock hours of training. So, taking just one course can satisfy or nearly satisfy the requirement. The courses are taught on two Saturdays, from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm. Students must attend all of both class meetings to earn the credit. Many of them are late start as well. The courses being offered this spring include:
- ECE 123 - Health and Nutrition for Young Children
- ECE 151 - Math in the Preschool Curriculum
- ECE 155 - Literacy and the Young Child
- ECE 161 - Social Studies in the Preschool Curriculum
In addition, we are also offering a series of three, one credit infant/toddler courses. They are being taught back to back, five weeks each, on the same day and time - Thursdays from 7:00 - 9:50 pm. Students may enroll in one, two, or all three of these courses. For those working with infants and toddlers, these courses provide terrific content about development and learning for this age group. The classes we are offering are:
- ECE 124 - Sensorimotor Development in Infants and Toddlers
- ECE 125 - Language Development Infant Toddler
- ECE 126 - Social/Emotional Development for Infants and Toddlers
Please feel free to share this info with others you work with. I am available to answer any questions or to provide academic advisement beginning on Wednesday, January 14th. Contact me at 775-673-8272 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
